Road Trip
I am sure that I’m not the only one who gets a little anxious when going into a meeting with important people who carry power and position. Your mind begins to race and your blood pressure goes up thinking of the coming questions or comments you will need to make. This happened to me recently as I was involved in a high-level leadership meeting. I started to get nervous and then remembered to look for someone I could encourage or serve and build up. The pressure immediately was gone. The anxiety dropped way down. My mind became clear and focused, for I was on an adventure for dispensing life.
Jesus came into Jerusalem on what we call Palm Sunday riding on a donkey, a beast of burden that was very common and ordinary. Kings of victory and of dynamic authority ride in on stallions of power.
Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem!
See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious,
lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. Zeph. 9:9
Our victorious King who comes to bring peace on earth and bridge the chasm between creator and the created, rides in on a small, young donkey. Jesus is modeling the very antithesis of man’s high-minded ways and revealing that the Kingdom of God takes the path of the lowly, the humble. What does humility in his Kingdom really look like?
When you choose to serve your family, spouse or the body of Christ, you take the path of humility When you give of your time, your gifts, your finances, you take the path. When you choose to weep with those who weep, when you truly have empathy for another and listen and comfort, you take the path of humility. When you set aside your agenda and pray for someone’s concern, you take the path, and the King is lifted up. Traveling the path of humility leads to greater grace released in your heart and life.
As the Scriptures say, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” James 4:6
Greater grace (gifts) is given to those who take the humble path. Sounds like a pretty good road trip to me.
