How it all started...
Canyon Chapel was started in 1983 by Pastor Dana Holman, he began in a small space off of Country Club here in Flagstaff. The church was founded on the beliefs of the Foursquare Gospel. They remained our pastors through 1989.
The Foursquare Church represents that which is equally balanced on all sides, established and enduring. Such confidence in the power of the gospel is also expressed by the verse, Heb. 13:8, displayed in Foursquare churches proclaiming, “Jesus Christ the Same, Yesterday and Today and Forever.”

Expanding the vision...
In 1989 Pastor Jack Lankhorst stepped in as the next head Pastor over Canyon Chapel. Pastor Jack saw the opportunity for growth, and the church purchased land on Soliere to build what was our church home for about 15 years. He was followed by Pastor John Rusk who came in 1998, in his words "he got to reap what Pastor Jack sowed" before he got to pass that along to Pastor Rich & Maggie Taylor. They came in 2000 and while they served it was decided to purchase 13 acres off of 4th Street to eventually build on. The building on Soliere was sold to Christ Church of Flagstaff to further their ministry. After the purchase of the land and the selling of our previous building we met in the Knoles Elementary building for a short time before buying and remodeling the building we are currently in at 1919 N. 4th Street. This remains our churches current home. Pastor Rich and Maggie stayed through April of 2019, when they decided to retire and hand the reigns over to our current Pastor Mark Leuning.
Where we are headed...
Pastor Mark Leuning has an incredible vision to grow not only Canyon Chapel, but the community surrounding it. Through working with other churches in Flagstaff, and programs like AZ 127, we believe God's hand is moving over the people of Flagstaff. We see the need in our community for Hope, and are working hard to show others what God has in store.
