Jesus Loves Me This I Know...
Good Day To You,
This past week Sunday we had one of our favorite teaching guests at church and he related the following story. One of the most influential theologians of the 20th century was a German named Karl Barth. He was a critical thinker and prolific writer who explored the interrelation of faith, theology and culture. Karl was at Rockefeller Chapel on the campus of the University of Chicago during his lecture tour of the U.S. in 1962. After his lecture was concluded, during the follow up Q & A time, a student asked Barth if he could summarize his whole life’s work in theology in a sentence. Barth said, “Yes, I can. In the words of a song I learned at my mother’s knee: Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so.”
Jesus loves me, this I know. Here is one of the most intellectual individuals with a genius mind and dynamic thinking who reduces all of theology, God study, to the love of Jesus personally experienced and understood.
As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. John 15:9
Oh, that you would take a couple moments and “know” the love of Jesus today. To hear it from his Word as you let the words of truth from the Bible break in on you. To ask with a childlike heart for Holy Spirit to refresh the Love of Jesus in your heart anew. Jesus says to his followers that they are to revel in this love that has been the source of the eternal, and remain or abide in it. To live in this truth, understanding and experiencing it. His love for us is to be a constant, a coat or piece of clothing we wear close to us continuously, and see it in the mirror.
My prayer today: “Let me walk in your love Jesus for me personally today with greater understanding and awareness. Come, Lord Jesus, and reveal your love to me.”
Q: There are different kinds of love. You might love your car or a friend, or a certain dessert. What kind of love are we talking about here?
Q: Do you know the love of Jesus personally? If not, just ask and see what he will do.
