Deep Waters

Good Day To You,

A recent movie called, “Young Woman and the Sea,” tells the true story of Trudy Ederle. On August 6, 1926, Trudy was a couple miles from being the first woman in history to swim the English Channel. She was swimming the last leg completely alone, for her family and team aboard a support boat could not navigate the waters near the shore. She had been in the frigid waters for the entire day. Now it is night. Swimming in complete darkness and high waves she loses her bearings, and anxiety and panic overtake her. She is lost at sea and has no way of knowing the course she is to take. She is overwhelmed and floundering in deep waters.

Her team arrives in England, and along with the townspeople set up bonfires as a guiding beacon, which she discovers and uses to safely swim ashore. Trudy became the first woman to swim across the English Channel, in 14 hours and 34 minutes.

When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. Isa 43:2

God is honest. He doesn’t play a game with our journey. He is forthright with us, and states clearly that we will go through trials and waves with heavy weight. You and I will experience deep waters in our life and journey with Him. We will emotionally be overwhelmed by events, grief, trauma of one sort or another, and these will have an impact on our psyche and soul that will leave us in a panic. But he also tells us that we will not be alone. He will sustain us, be with us, and we know that he will never perish or succumb to the waves and foam. He is the same yesterday, today and forever, the God who will see us through, our deliverer. The light of his faithfulness and character will become visible, and he will lead us to safety and strength.

Whatever might be your deep water today, stay close to Jesus and you will come to the shore on the other side. For you have a friend that sticks closer than anyone else.

Q: Have you ever been in the ocean and sensed the vastness and power of the waters?

Q: Can you name the deep water you’re in presently in your soul and then declare the truth of his presence?
