You Got a Friend in me.

Mar 5, 2023

Good day to you,

In 1938, Harvard researchers embarked on a decades-long study to find out what really makes us happy, fulfilled in life.  Contrary to what you might think, it's not career achievement, money, exercise, or a healthy diet. The most consistent finding learned through 85 years of study is that positive friendships and relationships keep us happier, healthier, and help us live longer. Period.

Beneficial and meaningful supportive relationships make a major difference in one’s mental, emotional and physical health. In this study the researchers, found seven specific core needs that are met through positive friendships. They are safety and security, affirmation and acceptance, physical help, growth and learning, fun and relaxation. Some friendships might cover 2 or 3 of these areas and other friendships even more. You and I are designed and created for friendships, positive life affirming relationships.

One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. Proverbs 18:24

There is a friend who knows our makeup, weaknesses, frame work, humanness and potential, and will remain glued to you more than any other one on the planet. His name is Jesus. Jesus is Lord and King and rules in this realm to be your friend, to come along side and walk with you through all of life.

These are his words to his followers: You are My friends if you do what I command you. John 15:14

The goal of our instruction and journey with Christ is not leadership or dynamic growth or even Heaven alone. It’s friendship with Jesus and the Father. Heaven is just a wonderful continuation of this friendship without end. This has been the heart of the Father from creation, walking and talking, in relationship together.

Q: Who is a friend of yours that truly meets one of the needs listed in the study? Which area do they meet?

Q: What keeps you from finding greater friendship with Jesus?
