You Got a Friend in Me.
Good day to you,
One of the most popular TV shows in its day during the 50’s and 60’s was Dragnet. The police action series was led by Sergeant Joe Friday with his no nonsenseapproach to detective work. One of the quotes that became popular and frequently used was “Just the facts m’am, just the facts.”
You could say that Paul in his writing that follows here comes across with a similar tone, and gets down to the core of Christianity:
I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as a the Scriptures said. 1 Cor. 15: 3,4
The apostle Paul is stating that there is one significant and overriding reality that is most important and is to be placed at the core and highest priority. Christ died for our sins, was buried, and was raised from the dead on the third day. Just the facts - just the facts!
This is the reality that separates Christianity from any other belief system on the planet. No other philosophy declares that their leader or teacher died and rose again for the redemption of mankind. No other religion makes such an extreme claim. No other philosophy says that it is the way, the truth and has the power for life. Christianity is unique. It claims to be exclusive in these facts. It is either highly arrogant and even demented or these are just true facts.
C.S. Lewis said it this way: “Christianity, if false, is of no importance and, if true, is of infinite importance. The one thing it cannot be is moderately important.”
