Good Company

And the Lord - who is the Spirit makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image. 2 Cor. 3:18

The word “changed” in this scripture in the original language is metamorphoó: To transform, to change form, for example as when a caterpillar changes into a butterfly in the process called “metamorphosis”.  Another definition of this same word is: “Changed after being with.” We’ve all experienced this either in a positive or sometimes even in a negative way. You have coffee with a friend and their contagious attitude, atmosphere and temperament of life and hope leaves an uplifting deposit in your soul and changes your day. Or it could be a dinner with someone and their discouragement, negativity, and downer spirit brings a wet blanket of doom and gloom. Oscar Wilde is credited with saying, “Some cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go.”

There’s an amazing principle of life that the more you are near to someone, the more you become like them, good or bad.  Don’t be fooled by those who say such things, for “bad company corrupts good character.” 1 Cor. 15:33

Everyone was changed after being with Jesus. So it would be wise, sensible and beneficial to find yourself in the company of Jesus through prayer, reflection and the Word, often. Being with him is a gift made accessible by the work of Holy Spirit. What a wonderful and beautiful grace we have been given. You can draw near to him and he will draw near to you. And you will be transformed into being more like him. Make the appointment. The change is for the better.
