The Middle
Good Day To You,
Bill Walsh, the head coach of the 49er NFL football team, was asked in an interview to compare his two great quarterbacks, Steve Young and Joe Montana. These were both Super Bowl winners and Hall of Fame recipients. Coach Walsh responded that it was a real joy to have the experience of being able to coach both of these excellent players. He then went on to say that Steve Young had an uncanny ability to see the whole field in any given play and could adjust his offense for success. Then he paused and said that Joe Montana was exceptional because he could see the entire game in his mind. Joe Montana was known for leading his team in multiple come-back victories, and separated himself as one of the top elite quarterbacks of all time.
”Now our knowledge is partial and incomplete, and even the gift of prophecy reveals only part of the whole picture!” 1 Cor. 13: 9
You and I only see in part, even with the assistance of the Holy Spirit and his gifts. We only have part of the whole picture. Our view and perspective are incomplete.
But God’s ways are higher and his wisdom is complete. He can see the whole game from his vantage point. So our limited perspective must yield in faith and trust to His purpose and plans. This is not easy when our emotions and flesh are screaming out for progress, fruit or an answer. May you and I grow in the attitude of acceptance when we are in the “middle” waiting on Him for an answer or visitation. Let us choose to mature in a tolerance of the uncertainty. Faith is fostered in these seasons of uncertainty - knowing that God will work all things together for good…just not knowing how or when.
Q: His ways are higher than ours. Name a few things that this would refer to.
