Spygate & Watergate
Good Day To You,
The story rocked the NFL Football world in 2007. Called “SpyGate” by the media, one of the most winning teams in NFL history, the New England Patriots, decided to “spy” on other teams and steal play calling signs to know what offense plays their opponents would run. This scandal made national headlines, and punishments were brought against the ownership and the team. You would think that would stop such behavior in sports, but no. In 2018 the Houston Astros baseball team was found guilty of stealing signs by using a centerfield camera in order to know what the catcher- pitcher of the opposing team was planning on using against their batters. They, too were fined and lost draft pics for 2 years. You would think…but no. Just this last year the Michigan Wolverine college football team has been under investigation by the NCAA for stealing signs from the opposing team to create an unfair advantage. Why the need for these very successful and strong athletic teams to cheat? What’s really the benefit? They want to stay in control by any means necessary. Control means to have power over and to rule. The system of man is to maintain control and rule through cheating, oppression or guilt. Jesus’s way is to break the drive of control by fostering the attitude and heart of a servant.
The greatest among you must be a servant. But those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted. Matt 23:11,12
Greatness in the upside-down world of the Kingdom of God is when one lives out servant hearted leadership. Then when you couple servant actions with humility, excellence and last fruit is released in this God pleasing individual. Be it in your home, job or church, choose to cast off man’s system to control and choose to live in Kingdom liberty, through serving. Make those around you better and successful and do so with an attitude of grace, honoring and serving them. And your Father God, the one who keeps the books, will exalt you. We don’t cheat to get ahead; we serve with joy and he lifts our head.
Q: You will lose when you cheat to win. What do you lose?
Q: Who could you serve this week to make a difference?
