Don't Stop - Don't Quit
Good Day To You,
We read the back story of John the Baptist in the first chapter of the Gospel of Luke. His parents were Elizabeth and Zachariah. His father Zachariah was a priest at the Temple and servant of the Lord and a devoted man of God. In Luke 1:7 it reads: “One day Zechariah was serving God in the Temple, for his order was on duty that week.”
He has served the work of the Lord for many years faithfully accomplishing the duties and customs of a priest, and now we find him quite elderly. He and his wife Elizebeth were childless, a sign to many at the time of not being blessed or seen by God. On this specific day of work he was to serve God in the temple on behalf of the people. Inside the temple the Angel of the Lord appears to him and tells him that a work of grace would take place, and his wife Elizabeth would conceive, even in her old age, and give birth to the forerunner of Christ – John, the Baptist. It was just a normal day of faithful service for this humble-hearted man of God. But then the visitation happens.
“So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.” Galatians 6:9
As you serve the Lord and others and walk with humility in your life, don’t get discouraged and give up. Faithfulness is acknowledged by the Father, and he will bring a surplus of benefit to your life. Simple servanthood and humility will be rewarded and honored. Jesus said of John the Baptist, that no one was greater up to this time of history than he. Seems to me that the blessing of God upon Elizabeth and Zachariah was realized beyond their expectations. It may take a longer time than we would hope, but the harvest of blessing will show up, for he is true.
Q: Where are you tempted to give up, but need to stay the course?
